As I was developing my upcoming game for the Interactive Fiction Competition, a question punched me in the gut: why do I writing stories & games about my abusive mother?  And will I be doing that forever, or will I just have this constant need to do it?

So I made a project to explore this.

CW for discussion of: abuse, assault, death of a parent

Mom, if you ever come across this, I want you to know that everything in the game is the truth. I know you won't hear it, but that's what it is.

Whoa, Bez. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for reading. <3

You're always so open and honest with your games, and that especially comes through in this one. taking an idea and reusing it, playing with it, rotating it in your hands, can be so helpful for sorting through the thoughts and emotions we experience. where art meets lived experiences and crosses into personhood is such a unique connection point that begins to allow a glimpse into the soul

Very true & beautiful, yes.  Thank you for sharing. <3

this is so true. sometimes I ask myself the same thing. I want to believe writing about abuse gives us space to talk about things that otherwise would rot inside of us. it is also the voice we never got to have inside the abusive situation. we speak now because we couldn't speak before. and then we find out we're not alone, and we can heal together in some way.

I really wanted to read something like this for a while now. thanks for saying it out loud. take care.
